I remember it like it was just yesterday. I was only 10 years old and I was being labelled as the 'weird girl' in my primary school. I’m not typically the kid who others wanted to be friends with so as you can guess, no one wanted to sit next to me, except this boy.
He was my classmate who happened to be kind of the cool kid in class. We played together, made jokes and constantly created mischiefs during the entire grade.
Time flew by and all good things came to an end.
On the last day of 3rd Grade, the school bell rung, and all the kids left ready to start their long school break. As usual, many of the kids ran wild, charging straight towards the school gate whereas I walked slowly away from this “prison”. Suddenly I felt a sudden tap on my back, it’s him. He was on his way home and he just wanted to say goodbye. He then pointed to the sky and said “Look! It’s a rainbow and I'll be heading there soon! You wanna come with me to the end of the rainbow?”
I was so blur by his question and quite frankly, I was distracted by the pak cik who was selling keropok lekor. Without much thought, I rejected his invite saying, “Maybe next time? I’m starving and I need to get some lekor now before it gets sold out.”
That was the last time I ever saw him.
2 years later, my sister and I bumped into his younger brother who just enrolled in the same school. We came to know that friend of mine was lost.
